Keeping your data easy to view and action is one of Salesforce’s strongest features — and now it’s even better. Thanks to a new update in the Spring ’25 release, Salesforce users can sort list views by up to five columns, giving you more control and visibility over your records.
Here’s everything you need to know to get started — including a small but important setting you’ll need to enable first.
First: Enable Multi-Column Sorting in Setup
Before you can use this feature, it must be enabled by an admin:
- Go to Setup in Salesforce.
- In the Quick Find box, type User Interface.
- Click on User Interface settings.
- Tick the checkbox for Enable sort by multiple columns (Beta) (or similar, depending on your org).
- Save your changes.
Now, you’re ready to sort!

How to Sort by Multiple Columns in a List View
Once the setting is active, here’s how users can sort list views by more than one field:
- Open any list view on an object (e.g., Opportunities, Leads, Cases).
- Click on the column sort icon (two arrows pointing up and down) at the top-right of the list.
- Select up to five fields you want to sort by.
- For each one, choose either ascending (A–Z) or descending (Z–A).
- Click Apply.
That’s it! You’ll now see your records arranged according to the sort order you set.
Example Use Cases
Cases: Sort by Priority, then Status, and then Date Opened to handle the oldest and most critical issues first.
Opportunities: Sort by Close Date, then Amount, to prioritise by urgency and value.
Tasks: Sort by Due Date, Assigned To, and Subject to better manage team activity.
Things to Keep in Mind
This sort order is saved only for you — it won’t affect how others see the list.
Multi-column sorting can’t currently be saved as a default for others.
To return to single-column sorting, click on a column header that’s not part of your current sort.
To reset all sorting, click the the gear cog icon and choose Reset Column Sorting.
Final Thoughts
Being able to sort list views by multiple fields is a small update with a big impact. It helps you work more efficiently, especially when dealing with large data sets where one sort just isn’t enough.
Make sure this feature is turned on for your team – it’s a quick win for improving visibility and workflow in any Salesforce org.
